Is this on a volunteer basis or are these Lamdera employees?

No, not volunteers 
they all have a financial stake in Lamdera, have access to be able to develop features and support customers, they’re tagged as team members on the Lamdera Discord, they are listed as team members on the https://lamdera.com/about.
